Notes
Redesigned last year, the five-passenger 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer sport sedan attracts fans with its aggressive persona and spirited performance. The DE and ES trim levels come with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that produces 152 hp and 146 lb-ft of torque, while the GTS packs a new 2.4L four-cylinder engine that is good for 168 hp and 167 lb-ft of torque. Coming standard with a five-speed manual transmission, the Lancer offers a continuously variable automatic (CVT) transmission as an option. As for fuel economy, the 2.0L gets an EPA-estimated 22 mpg city/30 mpg hwy and 24 mpg in combined driving with a manual transmission, and the 2.4L rates 21/28/23 with the manual transmission, however, the CVT constitutes no appreciable difference. Mitsubishi Lancer safety features include a full assortment of airbags, including front-seat side airbags, full-length head curtain airbags and a driver's knee airbag. Antilock brakes are standard on the ES and GTS, and optional on the base DE, while the ES and GTS have four-wheel disc brakes.
